Kimera Unleashes K-39: A 986bhp Koenigsegg V8 Beast, Born for Pikes Peak

Kimera, the Italian outfit that first turned heads with its stunning Lancia 037 restomods, has just dropped a bomb. Their latest creation, the K-39, marks their first car developed entirely in-house. And what a statement it makes: powering this new machine is a twin-turbo Koenigsegg V8, spitting out a brutal 986bhp.

Forget the Evo37 and Evo38. This K-39 is a different animal. Its designation alone, reflecting an "altogether more extreme billing," hints at the audacity. The design? It’s a deliberate callback to the Group 5 Lancia Beta Montecarlo, that legendary racer that served as the foundation for Kimera’s previous projects. Yet, the signatures of the iconic 037 endure: the distinctive Y-shaped front grille, those piercing quad headlamps. Nostalgia, yes. But with a savage twist.

This isn't just a respectful nod to automotive history; Kimera claims the K-39 generates downforce on par with modern racing machinery, thanks to an aggressive S-duct pulling the car's nose relentlessly toward the asphalt at speed.

While road-legal, calling the K-39 a mere "road car" feels almost insulting. Its purpose is clear: pure, unadulterated sporting intent. A stripped-out variant, adorned in the hallowed Martini Racing livery, is already slated to challenge the perilous Pikes Peak hillclimb. Ten more examples of this specific Pikes Peak monster will be built, street-legal, reserved for the "clients who believed in the project from the very beginning." Those early believers get a piece of a legend in the making.

Both versions share the same heart: that formidable Koenigsegg V8. But Kimera didn't just pluck it from a shelf. They tuned it. Smaller turbines, they say, were fitted to enhance response and drivability – a surprisingly pragmatic move for such a potent powerplant. The software? It’s capable of over-the-air updates. One has to wonder if Kimera plans to unlock even more raw power once these K-39s hit the streets and tracks.

Exclusivity is a given. Production will be strictly limited. More than two dozen cars? Already spoken for. Kimera isn’t just building cars; they’re crafting future icons. The K-39 isn’t merely a vehicle; it’s a gauntlet thrown. What an entry.
